Modern Buddhist Movements

Buddhists have responded to modernity in a number of ways; while some have embraced traditional schools, other have formed whole new movements. Several new Buddhist schools emerged in Japan around the time of World War Two. Others are the result of political turmoil in Tibet, for example, or the result of Buddhism leaving Asia for the West.
