Theravada

Literally the "tradition of the elders," Theravada is thought to be a more traditional form of Buddhism that has attempted to stay true to the Buddha's original teachings. Theravada Buddhism can be found in Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, and across south and southeast Asia, thus causing early western studies to describe it as the "southern tradition" of Buddhism. Pali is the language of the Theravada canon.
